Entries added to EU REACH SVHC list

On June 14 2023, the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) published a new EU REACH SVHC list. They added two hazardous chemicals. The EU REACH Candidate List of substances of very high concern now contains 235 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. However, some entries are groups of chemicals, so the overall number of impacted chemicals is higher.

Which hazardous substances have been added to the EU REACH SVHC list?

One is toxic for reproduction and the other has very persistent and very bioaccumulative hazardous properties. They are used, for example, in inks and toners and in the production of plastic products. Check them below:

What should you do now?

Suppliers of articles containing a Candidate List substance above a concentration of 0.1 % (weight by weight) have to give their customers and consumers information to be able to use them safely. Consumers have the right to ask suppliers whether the products they buy contain substances of very high concern.

The inclusion of substances in the EU REACH SVHC List brings immediate obligations for affected companies using the substances in their products above the stated threshold, including customer notification requirements and notifying ECHA through submissions to the SCIP Database.

Importers and producers of articles will have to notify ECHA if their article contains a Candidate List substance within six months from the date it has been included in the list (14 June 2023).

Suppliers of substances on the Candidate List, supplied either on their own or in mixtures, have to provide their customers with an updated safety data sheet.

If you need an updated safety data sheet (SDS) in accordance with current EU legislation (Regulation EU 2020/878), we are the right address for you. You can read more about new SDS requirements in our old blog post HERE.

We offer production of safety data sheets for all EU countries, which are also harmonized with national legislation. As well, we offer a new package that includes both a safety data sheet (SDS) and UFI code / PCN notification for a very good price.
